WPEO THE WORD
a local radio station Broadcasting to Central Illinois.
WPEO’s original website was built on an outdated platform that did not easily allow for updates, dynamic layouts, or a mobile responsive view for smartphones.
Before
Home Page Header - the home page did not communicate clearly & immediately the value for the user of visiting the site. Without a mobile responsive layout, the site displayed awkwardly on a smartphone.
Further down the Home page was very cluttered - too much information competing for the user's attention leads to a significant lack of engagement.
The About Page had too much text and no images to help communicate the information. Much of the information was irrelevant to a site visitor, which distracts them from taking the desired action on the site.
The Program Page had a long table layout listing every broadcast program. The table was not easily searchable, which made information difficult to find.
The Coverage Map page had a different branding from the rest of the site, and the information was difficult to understand for the average site visitor.
AFTER
The new Home Page quickly communicates to a site visitor exactly what WPEO is - "Central IL's Original Christian Radio Station." The video background reinforces this message with clips of a radio broadcast in action.
Further down the Home Page, a site visitor is given clear options for what they might be looking for, and simple call-to-action buttons to find the corresponding pages.
The Programs Page is now designed around engaging images instead of a text based table layout. The pictures communicate which programs the station carries, and clicking on the images provides more information about the broadcast time and host of each segment.
The About Page was significantly streamlined - making contacting the staff easily accessible. The history, slogan, mission statement, and other text that had cluttered the previous page are now removed to give the site visitor the information they are looking for.
The Coverage Map now has the same branding as the rest of the site with an easier to understand graphic of the communities that each broadcast frequency serves.
